- The Ministry of Railways has initiated the construction of an 81-kilometre alternative railway route, known as a cord line, from Shyampur in Dhaka to Cumilla.
- The proposed railway line will be entirely elevated.
- Implementation of this project will shorten the rail distance between Dhaka and Chattogram by 80 kilometres and reduce travel time by one and a half to two hours.
- The preliminary estimated cost of the project is approximately Tk 839.01 billion.
- Building the entire line on an elevated structure will save around 322 acres of land.
